WARRENTON, Va., July 11, 2025 – Citizens for Fauquier County (CFFC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the county’s rural character and fostering thoughtful development, has launched an initiative to explore grant funding in support of revitalization efforts in the historic town of Remington.
As part of this initiative, CFFC has identified three philanthropic foundations that appear receptive to a grant request to study how Remington’s revitalization could move forward. The goal of the study is to assess the town’s economic potential and identify effective strategies to strengthen its cultural, historical, and economic assets.
“Remington is uniquely positioned at the intersection of the Rappahannock River and a major rail line, with a rich history and strong community roots,” said Mary Root, a CFFC board member and Remington resident. “We see great promise in supporting a thoughtful revitalization program that builds on previous efforts and the town’s heritage while expanding opportunities for tourism and business growth.”
Remington is already home to a variety of thriving small businesses, including an independent pharmacy, a hardware store, restaurants, and specialty shops—all set amid historic architecture and a welcoming residential base. Community spirit is alive and well through well-attended events such as the annual Fall Festival, Car Show, and numerous activities at the Remington Community Garden.
The town’s deep ties to the river and railroad have shaped its history, including its role in two Civil War battles and numerous skirmishes. Post-war recovery ushered in a golden age of agriculture, thanks to innovations in farming machinery and practices. The town’s freight depot and Main Street became vibrant centers of commerce, lined with grand retail buildings and Victorian homes.
Today, with nearby Civil War battlefields and public river access via a boat ramp, Remington is ideally positioned to embrace a new economy centered on heritage tourism and river recreation.
“CFFC believes that Remington can become a more prosperous community by leveraging its history and location and become a tourism destination for all of Fauquier County,” says Kevin Ramundo, the organization’s president, adding, “And we want to help.”
CFFC plans to collaborate with Remington residents and local organizations as part of this revitalization effort, ensuring that community voices shape the vision for the town’s future.
