CFFC monitored the discussions and deliberations of the Fauquier County Transportation committee consideration of the Board of Supervisors request to put a US 211 - US 17 connector back in the Warrenton Service District comprehensive plan from April to July of 2009, before this committee forwarded their recommendation to the Planning Commission.  You can review the briefings on this issue and the committee minutes of their discussions and public comments at the Transportation Committee web site at http://www.fauquiercounty.gov/government/committees/transpcomm/index.cfm?commID=33&commdo=minutes .
While some view this as a transportation decision driven by future projections of stale growth estimates of Culpepper County residential development, CFFC believes this is first and foremost a land-use decision.  Whether the Timberfence Parkway turns into a 4 lane highway that effectively extends the current US 17 bypass around the North of Warrenton to US 211, as was discussed at times by the County Transportation Committee, or is developed as a local connector to enable a safe pedestrian friendly network for local residents, will have a long term impact on Warrenton's future.
After careful analysis of multiple alternatives CFFC forwarded a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors on 26 October 2009 recommending that "If a new portion of the Timber Fence Parkway is to be constructed, it should be a local collector for the benefit of neighborhood residents, not a bypass for Route 211-to-Route 17 through traffic."
