CFFC Supported Auburn Battlefield Nomination Moves Forward

In the summer of 2007, CFFC received a grant from the American Battlefield Protection Program to help fund an in depth study of the Auburn Battlefields for eventual consideration for nomination to the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. Grant funds, as well as monies raised from residents who live within the battlefields area, resulted in the hiring of a historic researcher and an archaeologist who have produced  stunning documentation on the events that took place at Auburn on October 13th and 14th  1863, during the Civil War.

Recently, the 27 page Preliminary Information Form (PIF), an overview of the event, was reviewed by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources’(VDHR) Evaluation Team, and the nomination to place Auburn Battlefield on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places is moving forward.
