Economic Development

Thank you for participating in the Accelerate Virginia Broadband Survey ? Help get a true picture of internet access in Fauquier.

The Fauquier County government is requesting your help in its broadband mapping campaign collaboration with Virginia Tech?s eCorridors Accelerate Virginia.

"Please help out by running a speed test at http://acceleratevirginia.org/speedtest to help the county identify areas in the county in need of broadband.  You can run a speed test from your home and school.?

CFFC is particularly interested in County residents who have low connection speeds (like dial-up) participating in this survey to ensure a clear picture of internet access in Fauquier County is captured by this study.  The test takes a minute or two if you have a high speed connection, but the slower your connection speed is the longer the test will take.

?Next, follow up your own speed test by passing this onto your family and friends.

“The Fauquier County broadband mapping campaign springs from the Accelerate Virginia project. Launched in 2010, Accelerate Virginia is a broadband mapping project that aims to measure broadband availability all over the state. This project uses a speed test, the same one being used for the Fauquier County campaign.

All of the data from the speed tests will be used to update the state broadband map that will identify areas in the state lacking in broadband availability.

Help not only the Fauquier County campaign but also Accelerate Virginia by visiting” http://acceleratevirginia.org/speedtest. "

If you are interested how your address is shown on the National Broadband Map the Federal Communications Commission is using to address national broadband initiatives you can go to http://www.broadbandmap.gov/ and see what communication providers have told the Federal Government.

The Accelerate Virginia Broadband Survey will help create a clearer picture of internet access availability in Fauquier.

Here is a link to an article which explains a little about the National Broadband Map and its uses.
