Fiscal Matters

From 1997 to 2006 Fauquier County's population grew an estimated 21% while County expenditures grew by 94% in current dollars, as shown in the above graphic.  The net impact of this was significant real property tax increases for County property owners as shown in the figure below.  If not for Fauquier County's support of land use tax deferrments, these tax increases would have driven many more agricultural, equestrian, and forestry operations out of businees than has occurred.  An element of CFFC's mission "To preserve the natural, historic and agricultural resources of Fauquier County and to protect the county's unique quality of life" focuses on the fiscal impacts of County planning, operations, and development decisions.  Our Cost of Growth page addresses the financial impact of each new dwelling constructed in the County, and includes a presentation by Loundoun County's Supervisor Burton on how "Unbridled Growth" impacted Loudoun's citizens and its Government operations.

Our How Much Growth page provides an analysis of the potential build out of Fauquieer County based on data available in 2007.
