2009 Fauquier Battlefield Symposium
Do you know which Civil War battlefield you drive through when you travel East or West out of, or in to Fauquier County?
Many Fauquier residences live here for years without realizing the historical events which occurred in their communities during the Civil War. On 28 March 2009 nearly 300 community members attended presentations describing the twelve Civil War Battles fought on Fauquier soil identified as in the top 3% of Civil War engagements, will be presented at the BIVOUACS & BATTLEFIELDS, THE CIVIL WAR LANDSCAPE OF FAUQUIER COUNTY symposium.

The presentations were delivered in the Fauquier High School auditorium, with living history re-enactors and local organizations providing additional information on Fauquier history at booths and displays in other areas of the high school.

Nationally recognized historian Robert K. Krick provided a key note presentation in the morning, with Bud Hall, Garry Adelman, Childs Burden, and Kris White addressing the Civil War Campaigns and battles that ran across Fauquier’s landscape in individual presentation.

The presentations included material based on research performed during the last year funded by a National Park Service Grant.  Fauquier County government and local citizens’ groups, including CFFC, are co-hosted this free one-day symposium to bring to life the historical significance of the countryside we live in.

Photos of the audience during Bob Zeller's highly acclaimed special 3-D presentation graced the front page of the subsequent issue of the Fauquier Times Democrat news paper.
