A Look Back - CFFC has added a page to our website to highlight the work of CFFC Kitty Smith Intern and Scholarship recipient Taylor Starkey's research digitizing CFFC's existing index of Fauquier Times Democrat land use articles as well as adding articles up to 2004 to the index. Taylor's first look back is a February 24, 1983 article concerning approval of dam construction on Licking Run.  See Taylor's first article on our A Look Back page.
CFFC Supported Auburn Battlefield Nomination Moves Forward

In the summer of 2007, CFFC received a grant from the American Battlefield Protection Program to help fund an in depth study of the Auburn Battlefields for eventual consideration for nomination to the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. Grant funds, as well as monies raised from residents who live within the battlefields area, resulted in the hiring of a historic researcher and an archaeologist who have produced  stunning documentation on the events that took place at Auburn on October 13th and 14th  1863, during the Civil War.

Recently, the 27 page Preliminary Information Form (PIF), an overview of the event, was reviewed by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources’(VDHR) Evaluation Team, and the nomination to place Auburn Battlefield on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places is moving forward.

Down load a copy of the Auburn Battlefield PIF and maps extracted from the full report at our
